Ever find a great piece of typography when you're out and about but have no fun way to let people know of it? Enter Typeplace. With Typeplace, you can snap the photo and automatically share not only the image with your friends, but also its location and if they're user of Typeplace they now have all the relevant information to go seek it out.
Using the iPhone camera or a digital camera of your choice, you can snap the notable piece of typography you'd like to share, give it a title and tags. Then by using witchcraft, the Typeplace is shown in the public feed including its location on a Google Map from which a user may favour it and add the submitter as a friend. Your upload count will then increment.
Either using the iPhone App available on the App Store or by using this site you can view a Google Map that plots the location of all Typeplaces submitted. Particularly on the iPhone app, you can see your current location and ultimately see what cool pieces of typography are in your area at any given moment. A must for any travelling typography enthusiast.
But what do I get? Merit badges! The more Typeplaces you upload the higher the merit. Mavens get less favourable typefaces on their real life badges whereas Masters get some top of the range kick-ass typefaces on their merit badges. Badges are available after you unlock them. Seekers are 0 to 5 uploads; Mavens, 5 to 19; Virtuosos, 20 - 49 and Masters 50+.
